Personalizing Student Learning: Uncommon Learning Experiences in an Era of Common Standards

The following resources complement a session presented at the ASCD 2015 Conference on Teaching Excellence in Nashville, Tennessee on how to draw upon students’ passion and life experiences to create lifelong learners rather than annual test-takers. Participants explored ways to personalize students’ learning experiences through the use of tiered transfer tasks, various multimedia tools, and peer collaborations (both face-to-face and virtual). Student goal-setting and self-monitoring tools were also shared.
